About Me

Professional Background

I have been in the mental health field for over a decade. I earned my doctorate degree in clinical psychology from Marywood University in Scranton, PA. I commissioned into the Army in 2013 after being accepted into the Army's Health Professions Scholarship Program (HPSP). I completed my internship and post-doc residency training at Eisenhower Army Medical Center in GA.  During my post-doc residency, I received the  LTC McCoy Award for excellence in clinical psychology residency and was the top resident in my cohort. In the Army, I worked as a psychologist at Fort Campbell, KY and Fort Hood, TX. I  also provided psychological services through teletherapy and in person while serving on deployments to Kuwait/Afghanistan from 2018 to 2019 and Europe from 2020 to 2021. When I left the Army in June 2023 to start a family, I received the Meritorious Service Medal for my nine years of honorable service in the United States Army. From my background  in the military, I was exposed to servicemembers/clients from diverse backgrounds (i.e., gender, race, age, SES, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity), issues/conditions, and settings from  across the US and the world. I had to be adept at establishing a caring relationship with those I worked with. I believe you can learn something from anyone. I am curious and interested about the person sitting across from me or on the screen in front of me.

My credentials:

TX License Number:  39729

NC License Number:  6809

Therapeutic Approach

The foundation of my approach to treatment is cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), which looks at changing thoughts, feelings, and behaviors in order to manage and treat mental health conditions such as insomnia, depression, anxiety, and trauma. Additionally, CBT is effective for managing medical issues such as:  weight, blood pressure, pain, and diabetes.

My therapy orientation has evolved into dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) which takes the change component of CBT and marries it to the dialectic (opposite) of acceptance, to decrease suffering from things that cannot be changed such as trauma, loss, or difficult life circumstances. DBT has core skills of mindfulness,  distress tolerance, emotional regulation, and interpersonal skills which helps to address intense emotions and self destructive behaviors.

Personal Note

In addition to being a psychologist and Army veteran,  I am an Army wife, mother, second generation American, and the proud daughter of hardworking South Asian immigrants. I enjoy exploring the United States especially going to National Parks. I love hiking/kayaking, being outdoors in nature, and spending quality time with my family.

What My Clients Say About Me

"Dr. Sarah is incredibly caring, relatable, and practical. She makes you feel important while offering real, actionable advice that has helped me improve my day-to-day life. I've worked with many therapists, but the rapport and guidance I've found with her is unmatched. Thanks to her, I feel genuinely happier and more content. I can’t recommend her enough."

"First session, and I'm excited for the next. She was very welcoming and easy to talk to."

"My preliminary visit was very comfortable and I was given a wonderful rundown of what I could expect from the sessions, parameters and legal status of communications and a few questions about where I was at and what I was hoping to get out of therapy. Sarah put me at ease and was great at leading things along."

"Sarah is warm and kind without an ounce of judgment. Made me feel super comfortable from the 1st session."

"I have always believed in the power of therapy but I hadn't really experienced it until I met Sarah. She is incredibly helpful with letting me vent but then truly listening and pulling out the important themes from what I said. She doesn't offer generalized solutions, but really talks through with me things I specifically can do to grow and helps me accept that it's a process, not a quick fix. She also understands cultural nuance without assuming anything. So grateful for her!"
